Workshop on floral composition at the SHM
Bhubaneswar, September 17: Beautifully arranged flowers were the eye-catcher at the School of Hospitality Management, SOA’s hospitality and tourism management faculty here, as the institute held a workshop on “The Art of Flower Arrangement” Saturday.
“The presence of vibrant flowers can trigger happy emotions and instantly affect our mood. Flowers can increase happiness in our lives, beautify our surroundings and instill a sense of serenity around us,” said Dr. Sapan Kumar Sadhual, Dean in charge of the institute by addressing the participants.
Focusing on the importance of flowers in Indian culture, Dr. Sadhual said flowers represented the country’s unity in diversity.

Guests enjoyed flowers for the freshness they breathed into the environment, she said, adding arrangements could only be made with flowers or with the addition of foliage, fruit and vegetables.
Tarun Gour, a florist from ‘Ferns and Petals’ who was the resource person, spoke about the various tools used in flower arranging and demonstrated over ten different types of such arrangements, including triangular flower arranging, l Basket Flower Arrangement, Ikebana, Vase Arrangement, Bud Vase Display, Crescent Arrangement and Waterfall Arrangement.
Besides students from SHM, those from the city’s BITTM Hotel Management Institute and Vivekananda Hotel Management Institute also attended the workshop. Pitambar Biswal, Director of the Vivekananda Institute of Hotel Management and faculty members from IHM were also present. Dr. Susanta Ranjan Chaini, professor of SHM, proposed the vote of thanks.
