Udupi: flower arrangement competition highlights students’ creativity

Udupi, September 7: As part of the upcoming Nativity Feast, a flower arrangement competition was held at St Mary’s English Middle School, Kannarpady, on Friday September 6th.

The competition brought out the creativity and skills of the children. About 400 students enthusiastically participated in the competition.

The flower show was held in two categories, garden flowers and market flowers.

Some students brought flowers from their gardens, while others bought the flowers from the market. Students used fresh garden flowers such as arum, white ginger, Chinese rose, sunflower, jungle geranium, zinnia, roses, cosmos, buttercup, asters, crocus , gladiolus, golden trumpet and decorative leaves. Some of the contestants used a papaya shell as the basis for the bouquet, while others decorated the flowers with pearls.

The competition was judged on the basis of idea, theme, creativity and presentation. It was a visual treat to see the beauty of the colorful flowers.

Reeta Quadres, deputy principal of the school, said: “We have been running this competition for 30 years to encourage children. In addition, the feast of the nativity is fast approaching. The competition was organized to make them understand the beauty of nature. Students here are skilled in flower arranging. We are happy that parents are encouraging their children to participate in this contest. “

Adlene D’souza, a student said: “This is a highly anticipated competition. It has become like a tradition in our school. It helps us to develop aesthetics and to discover the different flowers in our environment. “
