The Scotchwood Florist in Fanwood celebrates 50 years in business
FANWOOD, NJ – A longtime staple at Fanwood, Scotchwood Florist, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, October 22.
The South Avenue store, owned and operated by Lori and Dale Flowers (no pun intended), opened in 1972 after Lori’s family, the DeMilts, purchased the former Crowder’s Home Ranch, which was a house and a garden center.
The flower business boomed in popularity in the 70s and 80s when Florists’ Transworld Delivery was just a wire service and flower shop owners did all their business in person and over the phone, according to Tom , Fanwood’s public information officer.
Today, online flower sales are huge and, in Scotchwood’s case, helped save their business during COVID.
“The website blew up,” Dale Flowers said. “It carried us. And to this day, it is an important part of our daily activities.
Flowers is a third-generation florist, originally from Baltimore where his family ran a shop for 60 years. He said his convenient last name was just “one of life’s great coincidences”.
Flowers credits the success of the flower shop to “hard work and customer care”.
“We care about what we sell to customers, and if that continues, people come back,” he said.
Scotchwood Florist’s Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday will include giveaways and special offers.
