New Business Brings Unique Flower Arrangement Ideas to Heartland
She searched the area for someone to do what she had in mind, but realized that no one in the Heartland had done what she was looking for. She decided to do it on her own, and then she made it a side activity. “All I saw were flower arrangements or vases, or hand-tied right where you are, here’s a wrap, and I wanted to do something that could be a centerpiece in itself,” said Kahtoon, owner of De Fleur Box.
De Fleur Box has been open since June and one of the biggest challenges Kahtoon has faced is balancing her time.
“All I had to do was try. If you have an idea, big or small, go for it. In the end, I would feel worse if I just sat there and in a year I saw someone else do the same and succeed, ”Kahtoon said.
“When I started in June I thought it would just be a side thing, it doesn’t matter. The last month has been very busy, and it kind of forced me to manage my time better and I feel like it’s difficult, I’m not going to lie. Balancing my full-time job and having that too is a challenge but it’s not impossible.
Kahtoon does not have an extended family in the Heartland. She figured it would be difficult to start a business and get the word out without a family, but she feels lucky to have found fellowship with other strong and successful women.
“Not being from here I never thought I would have had this community and I’m so grateful to build these relationships because without these relationships I don’t think I would be here today. Meeting women who encourage you is life changing. It’s one of those things that is really rare to find, and I didn’t expect it in Omaha, ”Kahtoon said.
Kahtoon intends to grow his business.
“The good thing is I’m going to try different things, and I’m going to try things that can be shipped and I’m going to try to work with local businesses,” Kahtoon said.
