Linden, New Jersey (August 18, 2022) – A driver crashed into a building in Linden on Thursday August 18, resulting in a medical episode in a person inside.

Sources say a Mazda sedan was traveling eastbound on East St. George Avenue when the driver lost control as he turned onto Adams Street and crossed the side of Charlie’s Flowers and Gourmet Baskets around 3:35 p.m.

None of the occupants of the vehicle were injured in the impact.

A 46-year-old man who was inside the building at the time had an unspecified medical episode. They were taken by ambulance to Trinitas Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and his family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

New Jersey Pedestrian Injuries

Whenever a pedestrian is injured in a collision with a motor vehicle, the first path to economic recovery they must follow is through the driver of the vehicle that struck them. This means that the injured victim will have to seek payment for their damages from their car insurance company.

New Jersey’s Comparative Negligence Act states that a victim is entitled to compensation for their losses, even if they are found to share responsibility for the event that caused them.

An insurance company will assign each person involved in the incident a percentage of liability. The total amount of casualties that the injured pedestrian is ultimately awarded will be reduced by this same percentage.

Standard forms of financial compensation that injured pedestrians typically receive include:

  • Medical, medical, hospital and other healthcare provider bills
  • Physical rehabilitation costs
  • Ambulance and paramedic costs
  • Prescription Drug Costs
  • Transportation to and from medically necessary appointments
  • Loss of income due to inability to work
  • Exemplary damages
  • pain and suffering
