House next to former Ray Hunter flower shop in Southgate burns for hours – The News Herald

Southgate Police and Fire Department were called to the 16000 block of Eureka Road after a house caught fire around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

The house is located next to the former Ray Hunter Florist and Garden.

Police said the house was occupied by a couple and their children and everyone escaped without injury, including the family cats.

Firefighters were on the scene several hours after the start of the fire.

Along with the Southgate Fire Department, Allen Park, Wyandotte crews were there to help.

Police Detective Sgt. Michael Murphy went to the house Tuesday morning with the city’s fire marshal to try to determine the cause and origin.

Murphy said the cause of the fire cannot yet be determined and he expects the fire department to return to the house for further investigative work.

According to Murphy, the upper level of the house suffered the most damage and the basement is flooded with water used to put out the fire.
