The Dunmow The Rose Garden florist was placed second in a national competition.

The Rose Garden was edged out for first place by one point in the Retail Florist of the Year category at the British Florist Association Awards on Saturday 30 October.

Owner Stephanie Harris said she was thrilled to have been shortlisted to 10 finalists.

And she joked that with the winner being in Cornwall, it would take a long way to be a better florist!

The British Florist Association, the trade association representing florists and the flower industry, has received over 8,000 nominations in 11 categories.

Stephanie said many different elements were needed for entry, ranging from explaining the challenges businesses faced with the pandemic, to discussing customer service and the training given to staff.

“We opened our second store earlier this year (in Great Bardfield). We are on the verge of reaching our sixth anniversary.

Stephanie said customers are very loyal and their feedback is essential.

Now in their sixth year, the BFA Industry Awards provide an opportunity to show consumers why they should support local small businesses.

Categories include flower wholesalers and service providers in prestigious retail and website categories.

Tracy Tomlinson. The director of the British Florist Association said: “These industry awards remind us of the fantastic BFA member florists we have in the UK.
