3 tips for making a simple yet beautiful fall flower arrangement

Condition your flowers overnight.

First of all, Amy recommends conditioning your flowers overnight. This is especially important because the process gives the flowers a chance to open up and look their best before your picking. To begin the conditioning process, Amy recommends taking the flowers out of their packaging as soon as you get home to let them develop. Next, you’ll want to cut off the stems. For these special arrangements, Amy cut her flowers short enough to fit in a stemless wineglass… but we’ll talk about that later. She goes on to note that the shorter you cut your flowers, the longer they last. After you cut your flowers, be sure to remove any unnecessary greenery or leaves, which helps prevent rotting and bacteria build-up.

Conditioning your flowers before your picking gives them time to spread and bloom before your event, and they will likely last longer.

Don’t be afraid to cut the stems of your flowers! Here’s a look at how Amy cut her flowers for this arrangement.

Amy also recommends letting your flowers sit in the water overnight. And don’t forget to add preservatives – Kroger includes sachets of preservatives with their flowers for added convenience. If you plan on keeping your flowers in the fridge overnight – a common method of slowing rot – Amy says to be careful with their placement. If the flowers are too far away in the refrigerator, they can freeze.

Use a stemless wine glass for a vase.

For Amy’s next tip, she recommends using a stemless wine glass in place of a traditional vase. It’s an easy hack that anyone can do, and it makes for a more luxurious arrangement. Because the opening of a wineglass is usually smaller than a vase, it’s easier for the flowers to stay put together as you intended, and the smaller neck tilts the flowers inward. . (SB TIP: If you don’t have stemless wine glasses on hand, take a set of Kroger while you buy your flowers.)

Because wine glasses are often transparent, Amy also has a trick to concealing the “mechanics” of your flowers (aka the stems): simply place the hydrangea leaves between the flower stems and the glass to cover everything. you don’t want guests to see. The process, says Amy, takes about five minutes and adds more texture, color, and greenery to your arrangement.

Using a stemless wineglass is a quick, low-maintenance flower arrangement hack. The neck of the glass tilts inward, making your arrangement look more complete and lush.

For this arrangement, Amy uses fresh cut roses, hydrangea flowers, sunflowers, Alstroemeria, and red hypericum berries by Kroger. She also adds seeded eucalyptus for greenery and completes the arrangement with dried wheat. When assembling your arrangement, Amy recommends the following order: Start with a rose then add greenery, another rose, a sunflower, Alstroemeria, berries, eucalyptus and finish with wheat dried.

While Amy uses roses, hydrangea flowers, sunflowers, Alstroemeria, and red hypericum berries in this example, she notes that it is important to use flowers that you like when you create your own arrangement. Fortunately, Kroger has a huge collection, so you’re bound to find the flowers you love!

“To moo and lush “ is the name of the game.

When it comes time to place your arrangements, Amy says remember the words moo and lush. After all, there is nothing more frustrating at a dinner party than not being able to socialize with the person in front of you because the centerpiece is too big and elaborate.

When hosting a dinner party, it is important to keep your floral centerpieces moo and lush so that guests can meet to socialize – while enjoying the arrangements.

It is also important to think about the template in which you choose to display your arrangements. For example, if you have a round table, place an arrangement in front of each person or group them together in the middle of the table. On the other hand, if you have a long rectangular table like Amy, arrange them in a straight line.

If you want to have a slightly more extravagant and larger arrangement, Amy recommends placing it on a nearby buffet or bar cart, rather than where you and your guests will be seated to eat.

Some other pro tips from Amy

    • If you have a longer table, use an odd number of flower arrangements.
    • If you have a small number of arrangements, cut and lay eucalyptus seeds to connect them.
    • To enhance your party even more, add a small flower arrangement to your powder room.
    • Don’t be afraid to shop in the Kroger product section! Small pumpkins, oranges, tomatoes, and peppers can add pops of color and fun texture to your arrangement.
